Daniel J. Benor, Wholistic Psychotherapist (Canada), MD, ABHM (US)
COURSE SUMMARY
This diploma course will provide a thorough introduction to concepts of wholistic approaches in psychotherapy that address the whole person: body, emotions, mind, relationships (with other people and the environment) and spirit. The course will include experiential components and participants are expected to be ready to learn and practice these for themselves as part of the course process. There will be reading and paper assignments, and monthly quizzes on the previous month’s class work. Some assignments will include small group on-line peer discussions and critiques, as preparation for peer supervision in followup to this course.
This intensive, modular 240 hour course will be offered on 10 weekends from January, 2008 through December 2008. Classroom time will be 12 hours each weekend (Saturday & Sunday 9:30-4:30 and another 12 hours of study will be assigned between monthly meetings) Limited to 12 people. Acceptance to the course includes an interview with the instructor. Preference will be given to experienced psychotherapists and therapists already familiar with some aspect of wholistic care.
A Certificate for the entire Wholistic Psychotherapy Course will be issues on successful completion of the ten monthly sessions.
A Level 1 WHEE. Certificate will also be issued for demonstrated clinical competence in the methodologies taught in the first module. The course or any module may also be taken without examination or certificate.
COURSE DETAILS
240 hours: includes class time, homework, case studies, exams, practical exams
Each lecture will include experiential components. Participants in this course are expected to be willing to examine and work on their own psychological issues, using the wholistic psychotherapy methods taught in this course. This course assumes that therapist work on ‘clearing the vessel through which healing flows’ is essential to good therapy.
There will be regular reading assignments and written examinations. There will be internet assignments, so access to the internet will be essential to class participation. Students will post some assignments on a website and small groups from the class will critique each others’ work.
The class will be encouraged to work as a group on learning assignments. Group process will be a topic of discussion as part of the experiential learning, not as therapy but as awareness of process.
A written case study will be expected towards the end of the course.
This course may be taken for self improvement alone, for which a certificate of attendance will be given upon successful completion of the course.
This course may also be taken in connection with supervised clinical practice, in which case the student’s clinical skills will be evaluated in addition to the academic portion of the course. Clinicians will be expected to choose two new (to them) therapeutic modalities during the term for use in their clinical work.
Daniel Benor, course instructor, will be available for course consultations by email and phone between class meetings.
